The inside of the Kano city wall in 1903
The break in the wall is a re-entrant in which one of the thirteen
gates, the Kofar Mata, was set. The outer face of the wall was much steeper,
almost sheer, and was protected by a double ditch, which was choked,
over much of its length, with an impenetrable growth of thorn.
